The video ipod versus the psp for videoblogging
[Archived in Entry]
[Peter Van Dijcks Guide to Ease] Although I don’t know how many people actually buy movies for PSP’s, here in NYC in Harlem PSP’s are everywhere, but people rip DVDs using a bunch of softwares. Supposedly Sony looses $$ on the sales of the PSP, which makes sense, because it is superpowerful: amazing games, wireless internet, and all that for the same price of the ipod?

Now playing on a tiny screen
[Archived in Entry]
[New Media Musings] He said he used tiny speakers to hear what "the sound of a neck cracking" would be like on a cellphone after one of the episode's characters died from a snapped vertebra. But for gunshot wounds, the director was forced to make the bullet holes extra large and to double the amount of blood so they could be easily identified on the small screen.

[WeBreakStuff] The reason: because I love independent media, and an iPod video may become the best possible vehicle to get indie media in the hands of people (if it happens, that is). I remember a few months ago when I got back to blogging, I was paying a lot of attention to the emerging podcasting market (this was when I first posted about Odeo) and wondered about whether vidcasting / videoblogging would ever pick up or how fast that would happen.

Brightcove: Please update your site!

[Jason Clarke] New web-based video service enabler Brightcove, founded by one of my favorite web pioneers, Jeremy Allaire, is making a drastic mistake as it launches: for me atleast, its site’s main navigation is completely broken in my version of Firefox.

Highlights from 'Television is going online' conference

[New Media Musings] Interesting tidbit: Someone pointed out that the Minnow -- the name of the boat in "Gilligan's Island" -- was a tongue-in-cheek reference to Newton Minnow, the FCC commissioner who in 1961 described television as "a vast wasteland." I didn't know that.

It's not TV, it's Yahoo
[Archived in Entry]
[New Media Musings] An important article, worth quoting from at length: As Discovery orbited the Earth in early August, millions of people visited Yahoo, which runs the most popular news site on the Internet, to see the nail-biting conclusion to the troubled shuttle mission. Could NASA find a way to bring the astronauts home safely?

[Bullemhead] The only difference I've noted is that most talking head vlogs are more off-the-cuff, underproduced, and honest than most of the garbage I see on corporate-owned TV channels. There is something to be said for production values, but when the content is just someone talking about something, do you really need flashy graphics and visual effects?
