Not always an early adopter
geoff2 on 2004/04/08:
„But enough of that. Inspired by a crude video that my son-in-law took at my father-in-law's 80th birthday bash, I have acquired a Mini-DV camcorder, a Panasonic PVGS9.It cost $349, plus a FireWire cable and some tapes. Circuit City threw in a tripod and a camera bag. The tripod is nice (but will I remember where I put it when I need it?), the camera bag is useless.“

Misc. notes I picked up on burning dvds under linux
jtk10 on 2004/03/30:
„Or just save different MPEGs from kino. BTW, if you need to get video footage to edit in the first place then use dvgrab to get video from your DV camcorder -- it should be a part of the kino suite of tools, but if it's not, get it from one of the pages in kino.“

Long time no post...
stareja on 2004/03/02:
„It also has a built-in 10/100 LAN card for when I go to those lan parties that don't have wireless networks. I also bought a firewire card for our Mini-DV video camcorder. Haven't the slightest idea how to use it yet, but I'm working on it. Guess I should get a DVD burner for thos home movies now, eh?“

shhh you'll wake the normal people...
chuck on 2004/02/17:
„So I made the best of my morning, calibrated my battery (took like almost 5 hours) and searched for the best camera for the $ I don't necessarily have ;) Currently the front runner is the Minolta DiMAGE X20 - its only a 2MP camera, but it does one thing I like - VIDEO. I have been looking for a good hybrid camera / camcorder however I don't have 10k to spend on something thats a DV cam plus a 4MP camera - but this little camera did good on reviews with me, I really enjoy Steve's Digicam's website he reviews them good and gives REAL LIFE examples.“

Video editing
Len on 2003/09/24:
„I started video editing on an NT 4 box with a Fast AVMaster capture card and a copy of the ULead editing package that came with it. The hardest thing was the fact that capturing from my DV camcorder took up masses of disk space and the disks had to be fast enough to capture the video without skipping frames... Then you had to edit the massive files and finally squirt them back out to the VHS VCR. Due to space limitations it was always tempting to drop quality early so that you could manipulate the files easier.“

I've been considering buying a DV camcorder for a few months now and now our European vacation is all systems go, I find myself increasingly considering that purchase.“
