Digital media technologies changing the film business
[Archived in Digital Video Film, Entry]
Charles on 2002/11/22:
„I was shooting on Spy Kids, and I had a film camera, and I brought the HD camera, and side by side, printed them both out to film — this isn’t even HD projected digitally, which is far superior; this is HD transferred to film — so I could see where HD fell apart, where it still needed to be fixed, where it was like video. Instead, I was shocked to see how bad the film was. People’s faces cratered in with contrast, and extra stuff that I was noticing anyway over the years, getting worse and worse.“

Some slightly related:
„DV cameras and new avenues for video distribution -- web and DVD -- have ignited a revolution in independent filmmaking in the same way that PageMaker and the laser printer did in publishing. Jason Kliot says this in a Wired story:“http://playbacktime.com/archives/ 2002_11.html#000116 - Cached

„Any tapes found in the cruiser are popped in thos little evidence bags, forms are filled out in triplicate, and the tape isn't viewed except under controlled conditions back at HQ (unless there's a compelling need to run the tape immediately, such as when an officer is shot/wounded and they need to find the perps ASAP).“http://www.janegalt.net/blog/archives/ 003941.html - Cached

„Even though our CreateSF and CreateLA projects are shooting on 16mm, Voice Films is a huge advocate of shooting in miniDV format. It™s cheaper and faster and it enables instant feedback on the set, especially if you are on a limited budget. A summary of an article from the Mini DV Festival provides a perspective on the shift to video from film in Hollywood.“http://voicefilms.typepad.com/voicefilms/2004/03/ shift_to_minidv.html - Cached

„Look at this http://www.spymac.com/ . You tend to trust Google more than SpyMac, isn't it? The word spy in the name doesn't help their cause :)“http://www.mblog.com/sanjayvyas/ 2004_04.html#035052 - Cached
