Brussels in the Park

Adrian Miles on 2004/05/03:

„Though I guess using this grab from the song might get me a cease and desist letter. The variable playback also continues what I'm increasingly realising is my specific interest in interactive digital video, which are new problems of or for film temporalities, hardly surprising given my interest and respect for Deleuze's cinema books (for a first failed attempt to document this). This work also continues a series of statements or explorations of interaction, so most of the activity responds to the mouse entering the play space of the video, with clicking also now producing other effects on the nature of the work. I don't like interactivity to be defined or determined by 'clicking on' it is just too Pavlovian an idea, I'm much more inclined to think about the or a play of surfaces, interactivity for me ought to be closer to an idea of touch, rather than jab.“

Dawn of the Dead 2004

Dawn of the Dead 2004 chuck on 2004/04/03:

„I don't regard their unflinching slowness in the original as a flaw--it fit perfectly with the film's mallrat satire. But the speed of the new generation of zombies beautifully fit the speed of digital video, and the flicker effect worked nicely with what I regard to be the film's updated satire.“

Analogue post

Analogue post Keith on 2004/03/25:

„To be honest I don't really know, I mean at work I deal with digital video day in and day out, but nothing makes me happier than to get footage that was shot on 35mm film. And when it comes to film verses HD, I personally find that film is easier to work with, maybe just that extra color range I get with them...“

Lollipops: A Filmmaking Exercise

Haasim on 2004/02/09:

„I'm guessing this film was shot on digital video, not that there's anything wrong with that. But I immediately felt a certain awkwardness that is usually associated with watching student films. The kind of films that aren't necessarily meant to be witty, thoughtful, inventive, or entertaining, they just merely exist because the writer/director wanted to make a quiet, reflective, serious film without really having anything to say.“

Notes and resources on digital cinema

Notes and resources on digital cinema David Jennings on 2004/01/29:

„The NFT Digital Test Beds links provide several links to relevant organisations and resources not covered here. I collected a few links on digital film linked to the onedotzero festival in 2001, and some more links on digital video production , aimed more at children and young people. You can find many more relevant articles by searching on 'digital cinema' at Wired News Culture Stories . Finally see my earlier posting on Digital Cinema and Changing Film Aesthetics .“

movie star

movie star Lorraine on 2003/05/18:

„We still had a great day-- walking around DC holding hands, watching some short films with one of my new favorite people , enjoying a nice leisurely meal at one of my new favorite restaurants . We sat in on the Women in the Director's Chair session of the DC Underground Film Festival , and were so inspired by some of what saw, and just the general creative energy around us, that we had to go out, and I'm talking immediately, and buy our own digital video camera . We'd been planning on getting one someday soon, but the care freeness of the day got the best of us and we went ahead and did the deed. (Interesting observation: When we are without our child we tend to fall into some extremely frivolous spending behavior.“

In This World

In This World Ian on 2003/04/01:

„There is a section where Jamal is in Trieste, selling trinkets (lighters, sunglasses etc.) on the streets - it reminds me so much of my time in Italy, with hundreds of people selling this stuff everywhere. The film is shot entirely using a digital video camera, so has a certain ‘dogma’ feel to it, but that gives it a close and intimate quality. The film was deeply moving to me…“

Digital media technologies changing the film business

Digital media technologies changing the film business Charles on 2002/11/22:

„I was shooting on Spy Kids, and I had a film camera, and I brought the HD camera, and side by side, printed them both out to film — this isn’t even HD projected digitally, which is far superior; this is HD transferred to film — so I could see where HD fell apart, where it still needed to be fixed, where it was like video. Instead, I was shocked to see how bad the film was. People’s faces cratered in with contrast, and extra stuff that I was noticing anyway over the years, getting worse and worse.“
