[Macworld.com] Editors' Notes Weblog: The Mac mini: Comparing Apples and Oranges ...: As for the 3000, it's indeed a better computer (and a better value, overall, in my opinion). Once you configure it to similar specs as the $599 Mac mini (for around $640 without monitor), the Dell has FireWire, a bit more RAM, and a faster processor. On the other hand, it still has inferior graphics and shared memory, along with all the software shortcomings discussed in my final "Apples and Oranges" article that will make it significantly more expensive in the long run. In other words, the Dell 3000 fares much better than the 2400 in comparison, but it's more expensive than the 2400 and it still doesn't match up to the Mac mini as a complete system (in my opinion for the target market).
