„It also has a built-in 10/100 LAN card for when I go to those lan parties that don't have wireless networks. I also bought a firewire card for our Mini-DV video camcorder. Haven't the slightest idea how to use it yet, but I'm working on it. Guess I should get a DVD burner for thos home movies now, eh?“

Still Baffled By RSS?

„Having posted this, for all you bloggers out there, and I'd love to have reader input on this as well, what are your thoughts on posting news that is already posted on several other blogs? I'm having constant arguments between the half of me that wants to distribute information and the other half of me that dislikes being redundant. Is there some sort of formula that bloggers should use to figure out if the news they are reporting is being informative or if it's just a headline readers will have to weed out as "already read" in their aggregators?“

Law And Ethics In The Blogosphere

„Michael Fagan, of recent Fagan Finder fame, pointed out another tool available for tracking blogging trends: Waypath . I only had time to take a brief look at it today but the information junkie in me was on the verge of getting sucked in for much longer. Not only can you search by keyword to find topics hot in the blogging world but as Michael mentioned in his comment, there are also graphs available that layout the number of mentions for the keyword over the last thirty days.“

bloggy bloggy blog-blog

„However, I do think that I've reach some kind of end-point in regard to blogging. When I was working, blogging gave me an outlet for my desires to critique the media, and, when I started grad school in media studies, I had even more energy and ideas to bring to a blog about media and technology issues, but, as I become more involved in "serious" media research, I spend less time online looking at news and responding to it. Perhaps I've made the transition from a reporter's mindset, addicted to breaking news, to a more scholarly weltanschauung, where I'm thinking more contemplatively and about larger trends.“

Equipment

„Canon camcorders come in the following series: ZR ($430 to $600), Elura ($650to $900), Optura ($700 to $900), GL-2 ($2100).  Series names aredifferent outside North America (MV500, MV5, MVX and XM2 respectively).  The model numberswithin each of these series change approximately every year (the ZR 60, 65 and70 and the Optura 20 were introduced in January 2003).  If you have more money in yourbudget, each higher priced series progressively offers better optics, sharper pictures andbetter color definition.  The GL-2 adds Frame movie mode (Progressive Scan)which gives an even clearer picture for putting and chipping.  It is morebulky than the other models.  More details about Canon camcorders areavailable at http://www.canondv.com. Here is a site in Australiathat shows the camcorders with model names used outside North America.“

Fire on the Wire: The IEEE 1394 High Performance Serial Bus

„Sony's DCR-VX700 and DCR-VX1000 digital video (DV, formerly called DVC) camcorders, introduced in September 1995, were the first commercial products to implement 1394. Subsequently Sony introduced in late 1996 its DCR-PC7 micro-DV camcorder and Matsushita announced in early 1997 Japanese availability of the Panasonic NV-DE3 DV camcorder with a 1394 connector. As of fall 1998, there were about 30 consumer DV camcorder models from which to choose, ranging in street price from less than US$1,000 to about US$4,000, almost all of which have 1394 connectivity.“
