[TV Squad] Imagine all those short-lived TV shows that we'll never see again being available, just a mouse click away. Right now, however, Akimbo is just not worth it, according to David Pogue at the NY Times. It's too expensive, you can't keep some shows on the device (they self-destruct in a couple of days or a week), and the only categories are Billiards, Extreme Sports, Golf, Martial Arts, Documentaries, and...Yachting? Plus a dash of news content you can already get for free on the web.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[The Monster Blog] Interesting Insights from an Interesting Person: He attended college at, of course, Harvard, and then he went on to get a job creating television documentaries. He produced programs all over the world -- visiting the Dayak hunters of Borneo, living with pygmies in the African rain forest, climbing Mount Everest (four times). In all, he worked in 40 countries.
[Tvsquad.com] TV Squad: Not shows that you record (a la Tivo) but TV shows that are housed on the web that you can watch anytime that you want! [Tvsquad.com] TV Squad: We have an amazing number of cool blogs here at Weblogs, Inc, and now here's another one: PVRWire! It's all about the world of personal video recorders (a.k.a. digital video recorders). It's really a handy sister site to TV Squad, and already the gang has a lot of great stories up: the top wish list director rankings, top season pass rankings, and a more in-depth piece about the Akimbo PVR we talked about earlier today.
[Tvsquad.com] TV Squad: I'll have a review of the Moonlighting season one DVD set up later this week, but in the meantime, TV Guide catches up with Allyce Beasley, who played quirky Blue Moon Detective Agency secretary Agnes DiPesto. In the short interview, Beasley talks about her battle with breast cancer, what projects she's been working on, and comes clean about all the problems between Bruce Willis and Cybill Shephard on the set.
[Kink.fm] Portland Oregon Radio Stations - KINK FM 102 - Portland Oregon News: It’s a great concept. TV executives would benefit, because they would gain a meaningful afterlife for all the shows they have spent millions to produce - and then broadcast only once. You would benefit, too, because if you missed some episode of “Desperate Housewives” or “The Amazing Race,” you could just hop over to your set-top box and download away. It would be like the video-swapping made possible today by software like BitTorrent, but the service would be legal.
