One Affordable Panasonic Camcorder to Rule Them All

[Archived in Camcorder, Entry, Panasonic]

[Learning Community Group's Research Network :: Main Page] These cards are currently available in two and four GB sizes. Panasonic says that an eight GB card will be available when it launches the AG-HVX200. Officials are tight-lipped about how much the eight-GB card will cost, but there are rumors that they will retail for $2,000 each, which would make the camcorder and two cards about $10,000. Since the P2 cards are basically PC cards, with built-in SD memory, prices will inevitibly to match the downward trend in SD prices.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

[michael’s thoughts] Panasonic AG-HVX200 Camcorder: There’s a writeup on DVXuser.com that covers the features of the announced Panasonic AG-HVX200 camcorder, expected to ship late 2005. It’s pretty hard to believe, but the AG-HVX200 will offer 720p, 1080i, 1080p with 24p at an MSRP of $5,995 and record to DVCPRO HD (although on P2 cards, not on DVCPRO tapes). Overall this camcorder’s specs and price would seem to indicate it’s going to decimate the competition and I can’t see why anyone would want to use HDV when you can get DVCPRO HD at this price.

[HD For Indies] Panasonic AG-HVX200: the first razors & blades camera?: If not a first, certainly as their get their yields up and costs down. The P2 card reader station sure seems to be decent margin for them - it's cheap for a deck, horrifically expensive for a PC card reader. But as for that media....razor blades.

Remains of the Day[Remains of the Day] Panasonic AG-HVX200: The camcorder that combines a lot of the features amateur filmmakers and videographers have been looking for--HDV, 16:9 CCDs, 24p, 1080p/720p--has been announced. It uses solid-state P2 memory cards as HD media rather than tape, and while it will improve quality, the cost of the camera with two 8GB P2 cards will be just under $10,000!

[HD For Indies] Info & reader question about Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2 camera: But, having said that, the ratio of 8 to 20 minutes sounds suspiciously close to the inverse of 40%. So, absent better information, it would appear this camera gets its 24p from a method similar to the varicam, in that it internally uses a 60p signal (the difference being that it throws away the other frames rather than creating duplicates and recording them to tape as the varicam does). If so, then the end result will be a 40 Mbps 1080@24p signal, rather than the 80 Mbps 3:2 24p@60i I've been hoping for.

[Bob Turners The Cut - An Editor's Blog from Videosystems] Panasonic DVCPRO HD P2 Creates Greatest Buzz: It is clear that Panasonic created the greatest buzz of the show with its AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 hand-held camcorder. This camcorder, capable of 100Mbps recording and playback of DVCPRO HD for only $5,995, certainly dampened enthusiasm for the hot new HDV solutions introduced at the convention. (Note: I am referring to the Sony HVR-Z1 and JVC’s GY-HD100.)

unmediated: Hottt: Panasonic AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 Camcorder: A week back we heard about the JVC GY-HD100U, a three-CCD camera that could record at 720p (progressive scan). Good, but not as crazy as the unconfirmed details of the Panasonic AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 camcorder, which is being listed as supporting resolutions up to 1080p at 60 frames per second. If that doesn't make you start to salivate, let's just say that it's pretty much as good as it gets, resolution-wise, with current technology. The price will be high, for sure, but it looks like Panasonic has a contender in the top-end HD video space to go up against Sony and Canon.

Panasonic’s AG-HVX200 camcorder with 24p - Digital Cameras ...: Panasonic’s new HD camcorder one-ups the Sony HDR-FX1 by supporting 24 framed progressive video recording. All told, the AG-HVX200 handles video in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO or DV at 1080/60i, 30p and 24p, as well as 720/60p, 30p and 24p. If that alphanumeric soup doesn’t mean much to you, the layperson translation is “this camera really covers the stinkin’ bases, yo.” It will record to MiniDV tapes, but the other big news on this unit is its ability to record to P2 solid state flash media cards.

Policani's Digital Media Blog: New HD Panasonic AG-HVX200 Camcorder: "Offering flexibility and versatility never before available to video professionals, the AG-HVX200 DVCPRO HD P2 hand-held camcorder provides 1080i and 720p recording with the production-proven image quality of 100 Mbps DVCPRO HD. The AG-HVX200 shoots on a P2 card in 1080/60i, 30p and 24p; in 720/60p, 30p and 24p; and in DVCPRO50, DVCPRO or DV," stated Panasonic's press release.  [ more... ]
