Reality TV make ads the main course

[AdJab] But that's how Gary Ruskin (exec. director of Commercial Alert) described the integrated advertising on reality TV to the Arizona Republic. We think it's less stealth and more in-your-face: the American Idol kids zipping around in a Ford Focus, The Apprentice boys duking it out on a Playstation. Anyway, AZ Republic thinks that with DVR (is that all we talk about anymore?) usurping the standard television ad, reality television will take the helm. Hmm, maybe that's why reality TV continues to proliferate, even though we hate it.
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Andy Hardy Writes a Blog] Deep Throat for Kids: In junior high, we did a whole 6 months on Watergate and the "propaganda" of the government. When conservatives complain about liberals in education, I have to laugh, but in reality (at least in the NYC public school system at the time) I don't think I ever had a non-liberal teacher who didn't blaming the Republicans for everything back in the 1970's. If I remember correctly, I think we even had a photo of FDR hanging along with Washington and Lincoln. To be honest, I never even met a Republican until college (and we used to make fun of him).
[Dutchblog Israel] When, about ten years ago, Shimon Peres told us ab...: When, about ten years ago, Shimon Peres told us about his vision of a New Middle East, he was jeered at by many Israelis, and I must say that that was not entirely unjustified. His belief that as soon as the Palestinians would have an economy and state of their own peace would conquer the entire region was naive and shortsighted. Many suicide bombings and other events and developments in the Middle and Far East, the US and Europe before and after 9/11 have taught us and the rest of the world that what faces us and many other countries is a conflict with not only the Palestinians, and that instead of "It's ( only ) the economy, stupid!", like Peres tried to convince us, we should say "It's the occupation/economy/Islamism/religious fundamentalism in general/a lack of democracy and abundance of tyranny in almost all Muslim countries/absence of vision and true leadership in most Western countries etc., etc., stupid!".
[Psybertron Asks] Dont Panic: There’s your reality TV for the next decade. A panel of celebrity judges, third-world banana-republic leaders (official or rebel) invited in to make their case for a handout for their pet project, the judges mock, the public votes, and next month we send Alan Titchmarsh and his mob round to check how your looking after our money. The spin-off shows rake in the advertising income (with a contribution to the shows coffers). Seriously, it’s a winner, surely ?
[Betaroad.com] Broadband and Me: From the new BBC News series on changing technologies (being put together by journalist Peter Day), In Pod We Trust, outlines the podcasting phenomenon and how it grew from weblogging via Dave Winer and of course the inimitable Adam Curry.
[Chasemeladies.blogspot.com] Chase me ladies, I'm in the cavalry: Suppose that there are ten boring people in the Big Brother house. By week 5 half of them will have been eliminated. Are five boring idiots in a house twice as boring, or only half as boring, as ten boring idiots?
[Azcentral.com] Fun on the 'Arrested Development' set: Franz is, by all accounts, the anti-Sipowicz, a really nice guy, and he hung around after the press session and chatted with everyone, nice as could be. One of the fascinating things about NYPD Blue, unique to it, so far as I can tell, is how everyone in the cast so obviously considers it the tale of Sipowicz's journey through life - and how willingly, even enthusiastically, they accept this. Usually on an ensemble show, the guy with the bit part as a cab driver who drops in every other episode thinks the show's about him. Not here.
[Julietterossant.com] superchefblog: More Reality TV Chefs (Or Less)?: More news on Chef Reality TV comes from The Boston Herald this week, Boston's Christopher Myers of restaurants Radius,Via Matta, and Great Bay wraps up shooting for Force Four Entertainment's Making It Big, hosted by Nicole Williams for the Oxygen channel, described as The Apprentice meets Iron Chef. Gee, never heard of that idea before!
