Securing Digital Distribution
[Archived in Digital Video Software, Entry, Video Digital, Video To Digital]
Brad King on 2004/04/22:
„Intel announced it would fund start-up Trymedia, a digital distribution company that works with over 3,000 portals, websites, and peer networks to deliver video games and software using the Internet. The service sounds like a no-brainer win for both consumers and developers (although maybe less so for retailers), but there is a certain insidiousness that should frighten consumers. Intel, after all, would like nothing more than to move distribution to the Internet, where its processors and chips become vitally important...“

„It is P2P, or the peer-to-peer paradigm. In P2P, instead of users like you connecting to a website to access pages or get files (music, etc.), you instead connect to other users in the network, possibly many thousands of others. It has been popularized by Napster, where, instead of getting music files from centralized websites, many of which are dead links and do not exist, one can instead connect to Napster's network of tens or even thousands of users (out of more than 25-30 million) connected at any one time, and find the songs you want from anyone of those connected that has it.“http://www.searchengineguide.com/traffick/story/ 20001106_t1.html - Cached
„For instance check out their country portals (just choose the country and click go) or their topic specific portals (here is the link to all the topics they cover, and here is a more specific link to ICT in development). „You get lots of premium content, including links to sports stories on other (free) websites. (For an example, from this page click on one of the "Insider Site Lines" links.) Which begs the question: Is it appropriate for a website to charge its users to read content on other sites that don't charge, and that don't get a share of ESPN.com's Insider revenues? I'd argue that what ESPN.com is doing (and it's not alone in this strategy) is charging for the aggregation service it is providing, and there's no problem with it.“http://www.poynterextra.org/extra/tidbits/ 2001_12_30_tidbitsarchive.htm - Cached

„Websites and fund-raising are a hot topic on the Internet and much information can be found there. A recent query for the word fund-raising using the search engine Google yielded more than 1.25 million hits. When I narrowed the search to sites also featuring the words non-profit and website, I still had more than 25,000 returns.“http://www.raise-funds.com/010902forum.html - Cached
